Replacing a Damaged Stud
(00:02) Sometimes a frame component may be damaged. This could be the result of poor handling or incorrect storage on site. We'll now show you how to replace a stud.
Damage may also occur during rough-ins by follow-on trades. If a stud is damaged, it may be either repaired or removed. Here we show the removal of the damaged stud. Firstly, ensure any structural loads are supported and braced. To replace a damaged stud, unscrew the fasteners in the stud.
(01:16) If necessary, use tin snips to trim the hacked section and allow easy removal of the stud. Slide the new stud into place. Align with the original holes and refasten in line with the frame manufacturer's specifications.
A replacement stud can be ordered from your frame manufacturer, or cut to size on-site. Always ensure the replacement stud has the same BMT as the original stud.
