The image below shows an ultra-lowheaded fastener which is ideal for fixing wall plates to LGS frame members. These are recommended as they provide a flat surface for attaching internal linings. Wafer and button head screws can also be used, but ultra-low heads are recommended wherever possible.
Additional C clip brackets may be used by electricians instead of using a stud bracket.
Additional support
The following are areas where additional support may be required:
- long vertical cable runs
- large diameter cables entering switchboard
- fixing heavy appliances such as ceiling fans, rangehoods etc
Where additional support, or noggins, are required there are three main options:
- site manufacture of noggin from light gauge steel (speak to the builder for support)
- the use of a commercially made noggin with adjustable width.
- site manufacture of a timber noggin. Where treated or green (high moisture) timber noggins are used, they must be isolated from the frame, as explained in the BlueScope Technical Bulletin. Caution should also be taken when introducing combustible materials where building design has fire or bushfire requirements. Once more, please speak to the builder for support.
